Efren Velasquez- Owner/Executive Chef
Efren Velasquez is the owner and executive chef of El Cazo Cocina y Cantina. Although born in Presidio, TX, Efren spent many of his younger years with his family in Chihuahua, Mexico. His mother owned a restaurant there and began to teach Efren about traditional Mexican cooking at a very young age. After moving to Denver in 2002, he joined La Loma, starting as a server, then bartender, front-of-house manager, and eventually he was promoted to executive chef. Efren spent 6 years in that role, focused on developing kitchen management skills and refining culinary techniques. In 2017, he decided to take his career to the next level and open his own restaurant concept. Until El Cazo’s grand opening in Spring 2018, you will find Efren working around the clock to craft the perfect menu to showcase his unique interpretations of traditional Mexican cuisine and signature cocktails.
